KEY IDEAS
Important dates for voters:
October 7 was the voter registration deadline, and Arizona does not allow same-day voter registration. All mail-in ballots must have been mailed back (postmarked) or recieved by October 29. Voters can also drop off their ballot at a drop box or early voting site, and voters can skip the line on election day to drop off their ballot. November 1 is the last day to vote early, and November 5 is Election Day.
Information for voters about voting procedures:
Arizona uses a mix of vote centers, precinct voting, and hybrid locations — this varies by county. If you are voting on tribal lands, tribal law outweighs state law. People electioneering or third-party observes must be 75ft or more away from the polling location, a distance that will be clearly marked. No weapons or firearms are allowed within the 75ft line, and police are not allowed to hang out at voting locations — that is considered voter intimidation, which is illegal.
No voter can be turned away at the polls without receiving a provisional ballot.
There are two kinds of provisional ballots: regular and conditional. Regular provisional ballots do not require anything extra from the voter, but they are encouraged to track their ballot status. Conditional provisional ballots require Proof of I.D. withint 5 days of a federal election or 3 days of any other election. If you don’t have a valid I.D. there are alternative ways to prove your identity and vote.
Arizona is a hotspot for disinformation and voter intimidation. Convey these key messages to voters:
Arizona has safe and secure elections, and poll workers are trained to address any issue that may come up, including the kinds of printing and paper issues that were in the news in 2022 in Maricopa County. These issues are normal, and get resolved in a timely manner. Additionally, Election Day is not results night — ESPECIALLY in Arizona.
